Curious about a career? Come hear from someone who actually does it! Get the inside scoop on the path to the job, what it’s really like, and what you need to know before you dive in.

This month, we’ll be looking at... Respiratory Therapy!

A respiratory therapist (RT) is a healthcare provider who helps diagnose, treat and manage conditions that affect your lungs. They work with patients of all ages, from premature infants to older adults.

This session, we welcome students and staff from Macomb Community College’s Respiratory Therapy program to discuss the job, the schooling, and what it takes to become a licensed respiratory therapist.

Teen Book Club is happening — and there’s no assigned reading! The theme for our first meeting is BYOB (Bring Your Own Book). Grab whatever you're currently reading, rereading, or obsessed with. Give us the 30-second pitch on why it's good (or why you're mad about it). That's it. No quiz, no grade, just books and friendly faces.

\n \n

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

\n \n

What would make the library a place you WANT to hang out? We want YOUR ideas. Come hang out. We'll provide this month's activity, but we want to hear what you'd like to do next month. This is your library too. Make your mark!

This talk explores highlights from the Detroit Institute of Arts’ American art collection, spanning 1770 to 1920. It has been more than a year since our last Trivia Night (at Veterans Memorial Park) but we are returning to Erin Meeting Room with five new rounds of trivia questions, small prizes, free pizza, and lots of fun! The Friends of the Library are presenting this revitalized program along with Library staff. Doors will open at 5:45 pm so that everyone can get their food and settle in for an anticipated 6:00 pm start. Registration is required. Space is limited and expected to fill quickly. Recommended team size is four players. Groups larger than 4 may be split into separate teams. If you do not have a team, don't worry: we will place you on one.

Why You Haven't Seen Our Printed Newsletter Lately

\n \n

And When You Will Again

\n \n

If you live in Roseville, you have probably received a copy of our printed newsletter—also called The Ripple—in your mailbox over the past few years. Beginning in January 2023, we mailed The Ripple to every Roseville residence three times a year.

Unfortunately, rising postage costs and other financial realities have made this form of distribution cost-prohibitive. In order to make more efficient use of our budget, we have decided to discontinue home delivery by mail.

This change will allow us to redirect the money previously spent on postage toward other important Library services. In particular, we are increasing our annual Hoopla budget by $5,000 in response to growing demand from the community. This additional funding will provide greater access to ebooks and eaudiobooks, as well as a higher daily download limit.

But The Ripple is not going away. Beginning with the October–December 2026 edition, the newsletter will appear in a new format as a glossy insert in the October 7 edition of the Eastsider. Unfortunately, the insert will not reach every Roseville resident with the Eastsider. If you do not receive The Ripple at home, copies will also be available for pickup at the Library.

The Friends of the Library is a group of people who love their library. Most are Roseville residents or former residents. The group is overseen by a board of four officers and three trustees who meet to discuss ways to support their library. If you want to volunteer for your public library, raise money for services, equipment, materials and programs not normally included in the annual budget and meet others who love their library, please consider joining the Friends. More information is available on the Friends page of the Library’s website or stop at the circulation desk in the Library.
